Rzeszów is the largest city of the south-eastern Poland, a capital of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship as well as the centre of Rzeszów Metropolitan Area and Rzeszów agglomeration. It is the seat of self-government and province authorities, but also government and judicial institutions.
The city is an economic, scientific, cultural and recreational center for south-east Poland. It is an important focal point for such industries, as: aviation, IT, pharmaceutical, chemical, trade, construction and modern business services. There are three honorary consulates in the city: German, Slovak and Ukrainian. Rzeszów is an active member of the Eurocities Association and the Union of Polish Metropolises. The international A-4 motorway, ensuring a convenient link between the European road system and Ukraine (a part of the 3rd Pan-European Corridor). Also the main West-East rail route E-30 (Germany-Poland-Ukraine), which is of international economic significance, runs through Rzeszów. The city of Rzeszów has more than 27 000 companies, supported by over 800 financial and business-related institutions. 4,095 entities are commercial law companies, and 560 of them are companies with foreign capital.
The leading industrial sectors of Rzeszów are: aviation, information technology, construction and the chemical sector. The pharmaceutical, food and automotive industries are also developing rapidly, as well as the sector of modern business services and the sector related to renewable energy sources. Thanks to the favorable location of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Rzeszów is a significant commercial and logistics center for enterprises from Ukraine, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. The largest employer in Rzeszów, Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów (former WSK „PZL Rzeszów”) is the vanguard of the technological development of the region. The main shareholder of the company for several years has been United Technologies Corporation, a global leader in the manufacture of products for aerospace, energy and construction industries. The company is involved in the production of aviation components as well as complete drive units. Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów S.A. conducts technologically advanced production, research & development and service activities.
Many well-known and valued on the international market IT companies have their headquarters in Rzeszów. To name a few: ASSECO Poland – one of the largest and most dynamically growing IT companies in Europe; SoftSystem – a leading European company in the area of laboratory information systems and integration services for healthcare organizations operating mainly in the United States and Canada; G2A – the fastest growing global gaming platform.
Other significant companies based in Rzeszów include: producers of pharmaceuticals – Sanofi Aventis, ICN Polfa Rzeszów (VALEANT group) or CHEMA-ELEKTROMET; companies form the chemical sector – MARMA Polskie Folie, Polkemic, Greinplast. A local company, Makarony Polskie, one of the largest domestic producers of pasta, is also developing dynamically.

Podkarpackie Science and Technology Park AEROPOLIS
As part of the Podkarpackie Science and Technology Park AEROPOLIS, a Technology Incubator was created. The main task of the Incubator is to create new places for conducting business activity for small and medium enterprises with an innovative profile of activity. An integral part of the AEROPOLIS is also the Academic Pre-incubator, created with the aim of improving competitiveness of the economy and implementation of modern technological solutions.
In order to create the best conditions for business activity in Rzeszów, the Subzone of the EURO-PARK MIELEC Special Economic Zone was created. Located in the north-western part of Rzeszów, in the immediate vicinity of the A4 motorway and the S-19 expressway, the “Rzeszów-Dworzysko” Subzone covers Przybyszówka district and neighboring municipalities of Świlcza and Głogów Małopolski, with the target functional area of approximately 400 hectares. In the western part of the Subzone, the following companies decided to invest: Raben Logistics, AJ Profibud, Sobiesław Zasada Automotive, BOWIM-Podkarpacie, Savpol, Konsorcjum Stali, BOZ, Mat-Trans, Halico and Game Over Cycles-Harley Davidson. Rzeszów is also the main seat of many innovative clusters and associations, such as: “Aviation Valley – Key National Cluster”, “Subcarpathian Renewable Energy Cluster”, “Unmanned Systems Cluster”, “Plastics Processing Cluster POLIGEN”, “EXPO Cluster”, “Life Quality Cluster. Podkarpacie Country” or “Technology in Medicine Cluster” Rzeszów, together with Gdansk and Warsaw, has its regional branch of Polish Space Agency – an institution whose mission is to promote the Polish space industry by combining the world of business and science.
Over the past few years, the City of Rzeszów has been awarded many times for its comprehensive pro-investment activities by the jury of prestigious economic rankings. The Association of Aviation Industry Entrepreneurs „Aviation Valley”
The formation of the Association of Aviation Industry Entrepreneurs „Aviation Valley” plays a key role in the development of the aviation industry in Poland. The statutory goal of the Association is to strengthen the role of south-eastern Poland as one of the leading regions of high-tech aviation industry in Europe. In September 2015, the Aviation Valley received the prestigious title – Key National Cluster, which confirms the status of the association and a high degree of trust of government organizations towards it. This step was a natural consequence of the
cluster’s experience in representing Polish industry abroad. The Aviation Valley is also recognizable as an equal partner for other industrial clusters, which plays the role of a driving force for or the entire aviation industry.
As of today, the Association consists of almost 160 entities, mainly from the Podkarpackie region. The dynamic development of the Aviation Valley is met with highly positive feedbacks from new members, attracted by its spectacular opinion. Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów is a world-class company concentrating its activity on the production of aviation components and complete drive units, as well as construction works on aircraft engines. Pratt & Whitney Rzeszów is a member of the UTC Corporation. The company delivers its products to the largest aviation companies globally. In Rzeszów complete engines for F-16 fighter planes are created. In March 2016, at the expense of PLN 213 million, a modern Research and Development Center was established at the Rzeszów facility. The company is the largest employer in Rzeszów – it is a place of work for over 4,000 employees. Heli-One is a Canadian company belonging to the international corporation CHC Helicopter, which is the world’s largest provider of repair, maintenance and maintenance services for helicopters. Pratt & Whitney AeroPower Rzeszów (former Hamilton Sundstrand) conducts its production and R&D operations in Rzeszów since 2009. It is part of the American UTC Corporation. The Rzeszów plant concentrates its activity on the production, assembly, testing and repairs of APU type devices (independent starter generators for aircraft engines) for commercial purposes.
Goodrich Aerospace Poland (UTC Aerospace Systems) is a manufacturer of sub-assemblies for civil and military aircraft. It also specializes in the production of technologically advanced controls for international aviation concerns. The company has two factories in the Podkarpackie region, where it produces components for global aviation concerns, such as Boeing, Bombardier, Gulfstream and Lockhead Martin.

Rzeszów-Jasionka International Airport
The dynamic development of the aviation sector in Rzeszów is significantly influenced by the thriving „Rzeszów-Jasionka” International Airport. The airport is constantly expanding the network of passenger connections, offering direct flights to important European destinations, including London, Bristol, Dublin, Munich, Glasgow, Manchester, East Midlands or Warsaw. As a cargo service agent, the airport offers comprehensive air cargo services. In addition, since March 2015 there has been the second in the country airport point of phytosanitary clearance operating in Rzeszów, enabling the transfer of plant products. In response to the systematically increasing number of flight operations carried out from the Rzeszów airport, as well as the constantly growing demand of local entrepreneurs, many modern multimodal terminals and large-scale distribution centers were created in the immediate vicinity of the Airport, among others: Panattoni Park Rzeszów, Waimea Cargo Terminal Rzeszów Jasionka or Reslogistic.
